This original pin was produced during the heated 1940 election when Republican Wendell Willkie and opponents of President Franklin D. Roosevelt used the phrase to protest FDR’s bid for an unprecedented third term. (The two-term tradition later became constitutional law via the 22nd Amendment in 1951.)
