Vintage Cloisonné Enamel Hand Painted Powder Jar Trinket Box with White Flowers

Beautiful vintage Chinese cloisonné enamel round powder jar (or lidded trinket/keepsake box). The exterior features a rich gold/gilt ground decorated with a striking central white flower with maroon center, surrounded by green foliage and blue scrolling vines in the classic cloisonné wire technique. The interior is finished in vibrant solid turquoise blue enamel. Brass/gilt metal body and rim.

This piece exemplifies traditional Chinese cloisonné craftsmanship. The technique—creating wire partitions (cloisons) on a metal base, filling them with colored glass enamel powders, and firing has a long history in China dating to the Ming dynasty (when it was especially associated with the Jingtai period’s famous blues) and continuing through the Qing dynasty into modern export production. Small round boxes like this were traditionally used for face powder, incense powder, jewelry, or as decorative keepsakes.
